'Twas the night before Christmas Eve, with two BAT's taking on the extreme conditions at Princetown. With an air temperature of 4 degrees below freezing, and windchill making it feel like minus 10!
We managed ten kilometres, taking the Old Railway Line from Princetown to Swell Tor, returning via King Tor. Most of the route was snowbound, with drifting to half a metre in places! Unsurprisingly, we were slowed down by the conditions.
Hi, and welcome to the Team Grizzly Weblog. Team Grizzly is fundraising for Barnardos and the Dartmoor Rescue Group. The blog will keep you in touch with the team's challenging training between now and "The Grizzly" race in March! You can sponsor us through Virgin Money Giving. Donations will be processed quickly; then passed to Barnardos and the Dartmoor Rescue Group. There is a link to the Virgin Money Giving webpage below.

Team Grizzly Running in Icy Weather
Sadly today's official training session on the Tavy 13 half-marathon route was cancelled. A snow and ice-bound course does not allow for safe running. However, some of the team managed a 10 mile run on the cleared roads near Bere Alston.

Glorious Views on Sunday Run
Sunday 5 December - Again today, the Sunday runners were out with temperatures below freezing! A challenging route, of ten and a half miles took the runners across Dartmoor, from High Down, to Bleak House, Sourton Tors and Prewley Moor, returning via Great Nodden.
The cold morning didn't detract from the stunning scenery. Once the high points of Great Links Tor and Sourton Tors had been reached, it was clearly possible to see out to the North Devon Coast. Looking west, into Cornwall to Rough Tor and Brown Willy and South West to the Clay workings near St Austell.
Well done to all who ran today!

Sub Zero Orienteering
30 November 2010
Julian joined the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (Plymouth) Hasty Team for an evening's orienteering. Starting and finishing at Princetown, temperatures were well below freezing, with windchill possibly as low as -12 centigrade. Course was about 10k, with a great incentive to keep moving.
Thanks to DSRT (Plymouth) for supporting Team Grizzly's training.

Team Grizzly Training Run Sunday 28 November 2010
28th November - Laps of Burrator Reservoir
Despite being -6 and with a colder wind-chill, 27 runners turned up to run either 1, 2 or 3+ laps of Burrator. A large number not only ran the 13.1 half-marathon distance they also achieved a distance Personal Best which is fab.
We think the bacon butties and hot steaming mugs of tea provided by our support party Phil and Sandy (whose name is not Ken) at the end of the session, was a big inducement to the run and were greatly received. Well done everyone.
